I don't think anything is built to last more than ten years anymore.
We had a first generation waterbed for about thirty years and got rid of it for the bed we have now. We wish we had our waterbed yet. I have a bad back and it always felt better after sleeping on our waterbed.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

our mattress is 17 years old too. No one is making a living off us thats for sure. I was going to get a pillow top but you cant flip them right?
I don't like the idea of foam, sick to death of coils, and do the air inflatables deflate when you lose power? Help/opinions also.

You can buy two-sided pillowtop mattresses.

Have to laugh. I was so excited when I moved into this place. The kitchen had been redone all new appliances cream colored stove/oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Was just really happy everything was new and matched. Very plain jane as far as kitchens go but I really like it. Stainless steel just makes me think to much work.

We had a used HE frontloader that quit on us just recently. Both electronics and mechanical issues. I don't know how old it was to begin with. We sold it basically just above scrap prices for $30 and bought a $50 30-40 year old Maytag that we can fix ourselves. It is in working order and has been running well for years. It will probably work out better for us.

We got a deal on our stainless micro/toaster combo, and shopped around til we got a deal on the dishdrawer (also stainless) and yea, the fridge we just bought is also stainless.
However, all of those will go WITH us when we leave. We got this house with no fridge, no woodstove, no cookstove, no dishwasher. There is no particular reason I have to leave these behind. Our fridge has been leaking some brown goo for the past 5 years, and we've had it since 1984.
I don't have any particular reason I HAD to have stainless, but it matches the other stuff, whether it's the same brand or not, and it takes as much time to clean stainless as it does paint. We spent <$2,000 for a fridge, got something nearly 2x the size of what we'd had too. We've been talking about it and sort of looking for the past 2 years, and seriouslly looked for 3 months, when we knew we'd have the money. We saved for it, set a budget, and stuck to it.
The one thing I REALLY wanted, and we decided we just couldn't afford? NO ice/water dispenser. I could care less, in fact I hate them. They make the whole unit less efficient. We aren't hooking it up and if we can, we'll seal the thing up.

An air bed doesn't lose air if the power goes off. We don't leave our air pump plugged in unless we're adjusting the air. There's a check valve in the pump that keeps it from losing air, I'm sure. Once you find a setting you like, you don't have to adjust it much. My side slowly loses air (very slowly) so when it seems like it's starting to sag a little, I just add some air. There's a meter on the control which gives a numerical readout, so once you settle on a number, you can just add air up to that number in the future.
We don't use our water dispenser on our side by side, but we'd sure miss the ice maker if we didn't have it. I use it to make ice for our coolers when we camp, so it saves us money, and we also use it a lot for cold beverages. Some days in the summer we got through a lot of ice because we drink lemon ice water by the gallon if we're working outside and it's hot.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
