Default Your Appliances Are Really That Outdated?

Seriously? They all work, black, and they all match. Did you really need to buy all stainless steel to replace them?

Sorry, a House Hunters rant. Done this before, so forgive me.

Haha, our fridge has been making a disturbing noise lately so I am pre-shopping for a replacement. The guy at Lowe's asked me if I was serious when I told him I didn't want stainless. He even tried to convince me that my 4 year old wouldn't leave hand prints. I kindly had her rub her grubby little hands all over it leaves massive smudges just to prove my point. He was cleaning it with "special" cleaner as we looked at lovely white fridges for half the price.

i love house hunters but seriously they must be coached ahead of time that EVERYBODY wants granite counterops and EVERYBODY wants stainless steel appliances.

    i prefer good old white.

I haven't heard the word "travertine" in a while thank goodness. It's refreshing when they have someone on who isn't expecting all the bells and whistles in their first home. First time buyers who expect to get everything their parents took years to accumulate over extend themselves more often than not.

What's really funny is that my husband and I last summer were new house hunting. It was difficult to even find a new house that didn't have granite and stainless. ALL the new ones did. I could of cared less if it had it or not. I would of been happy with composite and black or white appliances. I sincerely didn't care. I just wanted PRACTICAL items, like cabinets that went all the way to the ceiling to best utilize all that often wasted vertical space (hey, I'm short but I know how to use a step stool!). So, I found my house with my dream kitchen; however, I had to "settle" for granite and stainless because that's what was in the house. But I STILL could care less about it and I'm worried how "dated" that's going to look when everyone has moved on from that and on to the latest trend. Ahh well, at least I have my cabinets. . .

I love House Hunters but was so disappointed when I found out not only are they COACHED into ACTING but all those houses they show them for the "first time" have already been seen and the house they ultimately chose already chosen before filming even beings. Takes some of the enjoyment of watching the show knowing that. I do a lot of eye rolling now when I watch it. And as long as we're nit-picking the show. . . why can't they say the word "room"? E.g., "I like this ROOM!" "This is a nice, big ROOM!" It's always, "I like this SPACE." What? Who talks that way? LOL Since 100-percent of the home buyers use that term, assuming it's part of the coaching package. Blah!

    Happy Friday, everyone!

Yeah, that ticks me off watching the shows where they are trying to sell a house and the realtor comes in and tells them nobody will buy it unless they upgrade the counters to marble. Give me a break. I could put in marble counters and gold plated fixtures but we'd never get anyone to pay for it in this neighborhood.

I have seen people in those shows complain about the size of a bathroom that is almost as big as my master bedroom.... Reality check, people!

When we get around to buying a house, I have an advantage in one regard. I CANNOT buy new. My allergies and asthma triggers are such that a new house would have to stand empty for at least a year to finish the outgassing from all the new materials - carpet, padding, paint, etc - before I could live in it comfortably. I found this out while looking at a new rental apartment that was just finished a few months earlier. I still couldn't stand to walk around it for more than a few minutes.

I guess that means I can escape most of the "latest and greatest" in appliances and counter tops. Not all, but some of it at least.

Although, the other thing I can't stand about new houses is the choice between stand-alone huge house on a postage stamp yard or townhouse/condo with a small patio and a joint play area.

I stopped watching home shows a long time ago. How many beige cookie cutter homes can a person stand?

I bought my first house in 09 and I needed a fridge. I was able to purchase a side by side stainless Maytag fridge, OTR stainless Maytag microwave and a Jenn-Air 5 burner gas range from an employee at my loan officer's office. Turns out the employee's house went into foreclosure and I got them for a steal. Problem is....I still wish I would have bought a white fridge and stuck with the standard range and microwave that were in the house when I bought it. They worked great and keeping stainless clean.....sucks!!!

I will not have stainless again. I will choose white, black or some of the smudge proof products they are now coming out with.

As far as countertops my house has Formica and I love that stuff! Mine is a really nice neutral color and small pattern and it is Indestructible.
Right is right even if no one else is doing it. Wrong is wrong even if everyone else is doing it.

I don't like black appliances, either. They show everything as bad as or worse than SS.

What do decorators have against ceiling fans? They save us a bundle on cooling costs.

And what's up with those huge bathrooms anyway? Do people plan to live in those? And think of the fun of keeping them clean. Gaaaahhhh....

I DO TOO!!! And literally would NOT buy a home if it had colored
appliances........and that ESPECIALLY includes bathroom fixtures.

Detest black........and probably wouldn't even look at the home.

I have had these taupe bathroom tub and toilet for too many years and hope to get them out of here in next year or two. IT WILL BE WHITE!! (and you can NEVER match it to replace a toilet seat, or etc.)

COLORS DATE YOUR HOME.........IMHO........even faster than style, I think.
