shampoo bar/no poo methods
Has anyone every tried the shampoo bars? I am not sure if there is such a thing as a conditioner bar. Has anyone tried the "no poo" method?? I wonder if the baking soda and apple cider method is good for any type of hair.
Any suggestions? Thank you!Step 1 $207/1500

What's your hair type? Unfortunately I have thick frizzy hair. I've used baking soda mixed with shampoo to help get rid of the hairsprays, mousse, etc....let's see, I've used the apple cider as a rinse. Not brave enough to go "no poo" though, lol. I can go every other day but I have the worst hair in the world so I feel like it always needs to be shampooed and conditioned (especially conditioned!) Anyway, I couldn't tell if the b.soda/vinegar did any good though. It didn't feel/look any different to me. Sorry I guess that's not what you were looking for was it?

I have heard that shampoo bars are good for unprocessed hair i.e. no color, perms etc. I don't know if there are conditioner bars.
I wash my hair with conditioner aka co-wash. I buy VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea Conditioner and apply it to my scalp and wet hair. I use about 1/3 of a bottle since my hair is so long. I massage my scalp, then cover my hair with a cap and continue with my shower. Remove the cap and massage scalp again. Then I rinse and rinse and rinse.
My hair airdrys until 95% dry when I tip my head and use the blowdryer on Low Cool at the roots for body.
The mild sulfates in the conditioner work as a very gentle shampoo. My hair is permanently colored. No spend days 2012 93/365

I use homemade soap on my hair. I haven't used shampoo on it for a few years. It took a while for my hair to adjust to the homemade soap instead of the shampoo, but it is so much softer now.

I have coarse hair. I hope I don't put baking soda in my hair and then make it worse.

If you color your hair I would stay away from using baking soda since it could strip your hair of the color. My hair is very coarse. Have been able to go without shampooing for about two days. When my hair is really dry and coarse I will shampoo with conditioner only. Since my hair is colored I use a conditioner for colored hair which my hairdresser recommended. It takes about a week of doing this for my hair to become softer. Although I do shampoo my hair twice during the week. Just make sure to really rinse you hair well when using conditioner. Hopefully you will get some relief. Right now I am using tresseme conditioner that I was able to purchase on sale. It does take a lot of conditioner.

I've been experimenting with shampooing my hair less. I do take a shower in the morning still, though, and scrub my scalp with the warm water, then apply conditioner. After, I use a little shea butter, mostly on the lower part of my hair. Last week I only used shampoo once. I can tell that my hair is in better condition.
My hair had changed in the last year. I wonder if it had to do with my age, being in my 50's now.

I do the co-wash method, and baking soda to clarify every couple months. I have colored (high and low lighted) hair, and my hair is exponentially better now. There was a transition period of about 2 weeks, but now my hair is softer, more manageable, smoother, everything. I adore it. I don't, however, use vinegar on my hair.

I just started using the "no poo" method this week. So far, I love it. I had gone to washing my hair every other day quite a while ago. This week, I used the baking soda on the roots and apple cider vinegar on the ends twice. While you are transitioning, you can get oily roots. The baking soda helps with that. I found using the vinegar made my hair really shiny and soft. Good luck with the journey. I've heard that your hair can take several weeks to adjust. So far, my adjustment hasn't been too bad. A couple of days where my hair felt a little greasy in the beginning is about all. It felt great and looks shiny and wonderful today. I'm going to continue.

I would love to go no-poo...I'm just not there yet. I only wash my hair every other day now and that took some getting used to. Baby steps.

After reading this thread, while hitting up the Whole Foods, I saw a 'shampoo & conditioner' bar and too wondered how well this would work. I have SUPER long hair so not sure how conditioning the conditioner portion would work

I've had to resort to using a regular bar of soap in my hair before, and I don't think it much different from using Shampoo from the bottle.

I went ahead and ordered samples of shampoo bars and one conditioning bar. I really hope I like it! I would love to switch and since I am the only girl in our household, if I like it, then the boys will use it! Ha!
