Default Cutting Clutter From the Sewing Room

There's more to cleaning up after a sewing session than just stowing the project and its supplies into your sewing bag or craft drawer. You also have to deal with all the dropped pins and tiny scraps of trimmed fabric and snippets of thread. But there's a simple way to clean up that messy floor, or rather, keep it from getting messy in the first place. Before you start sewing, lay an old sheet or a large towel at your feet, under your craft table or sewing machine. When you've finished working, use a magnet to pick up all the dropped pins. Then pick up the sheet or towel - and all the scraps with it - and shake them right into the trash.

Well, rule of thumb in my house. If I drop a pin, I look for it until I find it and pick it up immediately. I have colored heads on the pins so that they are easy to find.

Straight pins can be very dangerous for small kids, for animals or for stepping on. A lady I took a quilting course with stepped on a straight pin she hadn't picked up right away and had to have surgery on her foot to have it taken out. She suffered for months!!!

So always pick up the straight pins that you drop immediately!!!!
