Shock Your Family into Cleaning Regularly
If family members repeatedly leave their things where they don't belong, gather them up in a large garbage bag and take it out ot the garage. When they ask if you've seen a particular item you picked up, tell them it's in the garage. When they ask why, tell them you found it lying around and thought it was garbage. They should get the idea pretty fast.

LOL, Amy. I like that, and I did something simular.
After getting fed up with the kids thinking I was their maid & after warning them, I threw their stuff on the front lawn. They went and picked it all up and put it away. They thought I was nuts.

LOL! Good tip Amy! I did something similar too. When DS#1 wouldn't put his clothes away, I threw them out on the porch and said "fine. I guess you don't need them." He went out and picked them up and now he listens when I tell him to come get them and put them away.
