How do you sterilize sponges?

I soak mine in the water when I bleach out my ugly porcelin sink.

I also run them through the dishwasher. When they get to old and ratty looking, I throw them out and get new ones.

Dishwasher or washing machine...whichever happens to be running at the time I notice it's disgusting.
