Default Do You Pay for Garbage Removal?

I was just curious how many of you have to pay a garbage removal service? Is it by town or by state and is it expensive? Just curious and wondering if that factors into anyone's flinging.

We pay for ours we were with a company that charged $19 but are swtiching to a smaller one that charges $15. Saving the $4 is not the real reason for me, I like to help support smaller businesses and this guy and hhis son work very hard to do well!

We have one company here that serves our town. We pay $32.00 for 3 months and thats to pick up one huge bin weekly that they provide. You can put out your own can for less but the winds are so bad here that your trash will blow all over if you don't have the big can. If we have more trash, it is up to the hauler whether they will charge you extra. Extra trash is $1.00 per bag.

If we have alot, we can take it in our car to the dump ourselves for free.

Nope we don't pay for it here. There is a dumpster at the opposite end of our apartment complex so we don't have to drive it off either.

I've never lived anywhere where you had to pay for garbage removal, until I joined here and heard some of you talking about it I had never heard of it either. Although there were some people you could call and have it hauled off on a weekky basis if you didn't want to take it to the dump yourself. I can't remember how much they charged in their as but we never used them, we took it off ourselves.

Yes. We have a company here that does all the trash pickup and recycling pickup. The fee is charged on our utilities bill along with our water, sewer, and reclaimed water charges.

Trash pickup is $7.81 per month (they pick up twice a week), recycling pickup is $2.12 per month (they pick up once a week), and yard waste recycling is 91¢ per month (they pick up once a week).

We have a local company pick ours up, $72 every 3 months. That is for 2 large cans and 1 recycling bin per week. I called them before putting out all that extra from my flinging including an old microwave and stand lamp and they said no problem. So far they haven't charged us extra for it.

If they do it is still cheaper than taking it to the dump ourselves, they charge and arm and a leg to dump!

This is so interesting to me. It's a free town service here and in all of the neighboring towns. I don't know if it's particular to all of New Jersey or not. On Tuesdays they pick up our household garbage and bottles/cans/aluminum recycling. On Fridays they pick up household garbage, large garbage (like furniture, lamps, etc.), and newspaper/cardboard recycling. They also pick up brush, sticks, grass/leaves/clippings at various times throughout the year, as long as you rake/sweep them to the curb. I guess I've always taken it for granted since I also grew up here. I won't anymore!

That is the difference between city/suburb living and country living Amy. When we lived in the city ours was picked up twice a week too by the city, no charge.

We don't pay here--at least not directly. It's rolled into our taxes.

We get our garbage picked up (private co.) once a week for $5. We take our recycling to a local spot for free.
We have a dump permit to get rid of the big stuff and pay by the pound. Some appliances are free to dump.

Eileen, You know, I never thought of it, but I bet ours is included in the taxes, too. It would explain where SOME of the money is going!

We don't pay for ours here either, but I'm sure they get their money somehow...lol..... Our regular garbage goes out every Thursday and we also have a recycling bin that picks up thursdays..... every other Tuesday they get brush and yard stuff. Twice a year we have "everything" days where you can sit out everything not hazardous.... People drive by all night to see what you have set out....lol....
