Need a Little Support Here
Okay...I know it has to be done. I realize I have to be strong and just face that fact. They have to go. They MUST. At this point they are merely more clutter in my garage. But it's so hard...so hard to let go. It's like saying goodbye to old friends. However, I need to be strong, and I need your help.
I have a cardboard box (a small box, yet a full one, nonetheless) full of books that they wouldn't take at the book store and that they won't sell at the bazaar and the library has a sign up that they also don't have room for more books. I actually have to throw away these books. This is TOTALLY sacreligious to me...tossing books. Books are our friends. We don't throw away friends! But, I think I have to. They are taking up space, we don't read them, and I don't want them anymore.
A little help, please?My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Amy, Deb has some excellent ideas here! Try nursing homes as well, just because they can't live alne doesn't mean they are mentally gone. They need stimulus to keep going too!
Or post a list here, you may have something someone here would like to read but can't find, or doesn't have the money to buy!

I like to think of it airy.
Each object on the shelf having it's own personal space. It's that just moving in or just moving out look that I've worked hard to achieve.
It's feng shui.
Adding more books would surely mess with the cosmos.

If all of the above suggestions fail, I would recycle them before trashing them if you have that as an available option.

Well, the two things that crossed my mind have already been suggested-- nursing home (we can never get enough books) and Book Crossing.
See, your friends can find new homes after all....

You could always take them and drop them off at a thrift store. if they won't take em during the day, drop em off at night by thier donation bin...
you may have to dress all in black with a black knit cap on, sneak it in there...

the doc gave me Vicodin and Avelox. I gave up on the nyquil, it was harshin my buzz, slowin my roll, crampin my style... That's all the slang I know.
Ooooh, Tom Cruise?? I'll be right over! LOL I am in a goofy mood, sorry to hyjack yet another thread today.
You might even be able to call a few thrift shops. maybe the Arc, DAV, or salvation army, etc might have trucks and they can schedule a time to come pic stuff up, that helps me to declutter. It gives me a scheduled "gotta have it done by___" date, which is motivation to get it done. plus if i know they are comming I tend to get rid of more because someone will take it, I don't have to find homes for items. They in turn can sell the books. There is one thrift store here that takes book donations and they turn around and give the books to needy causes and literacy programs. It doesn't matter to them what kind of book it is. You may want to look into finding literacy programs, they might have use for the books too.~~ Missy ~~

Anywho....
they gave me vicodin when I had my root canal! Mel can tell you what a hoot that was!! Just Vicodin, Deb, M&Ms, and the happy fun ball!!!
WooHoo!!
And hey Amy - just send me the dang books - I'll drop 'em off in Mexico!! (there - now it's back on track - right?!?!)
