Default Time to Practice What I Preach

After all of my threads telling all of you to toss it out, get rid of it, and don't give it a second thought, as I pack up this house, I am having an INCREDIBLY hard time throwing things away. There are some things that are just GARBAGE and I can't get myself to throw it away! I need to be tough with myself and just do it. It's really hard, though! When I was decluttering, it was easy because I was making more space in this house. Now, I'm packing things up to take somewhere else and I keep thinking "Maybe I could use it in the new house," even though I know darn well I won't.

I'm setting a SMALL goal for myself today. I want to throw out one kitchen trash bag full of stuff by the end of the day. This is a good goal for today because I have 3 piano lessons and 1 tutoring session this afternoon, so my tossing time is limited. I better get going here!

Hoping you were able to toss. I know the feeling. When we moved here, I was packing up some "stuff" and was thinking the entire time how I should toss it, but then I might need/want it.

I did toss a lot, but could have done a better job. Obviously, because I still have about 4 full boxes that I never even unpacked that are still sitting in the garage.

    You can do it....

As I declutter I like to watch the show clean sweep, and especially if the guy Peter is helping with the declutter because what he tells people on why to keep and wjy to get rid of things. He really seems to have good advice on why to keep things and when it is ready to get rid of things BUT It is hard to do.....

Oh Amy, it's like peeling an onion one layer at a time.

And it is much harder if I am emotionally attached to the object in some way, even though intellectually I know it's junk and I need it gone, sometimes I have to "work it thru".

I also find periods of upheaval or change in my life can sometimes be times it's harder to let go of stuff.

Best times are when I've got a deadline to meet, company coming or some such time limit. Then you should see the stuff fly!

but even the best dejunkers have their times.

ps if it's emotional stuff try boxing it up, putting a date on it, 3 or 6 months from now, and leaving it out of sight and out of the traffic. When the time comes, toss it or give it away. put what it's fate is on the box so you don't have to go thru and handle it all over again deciding which is trash, and which is give away.
