Question How do you organize your book shelves?

When it comes to organizing your bookshelves, how do you do it?

    Are specific books all together.

Do you have your book in alphabetical order?

Do you have nick nacks with your books?

Share how your bookshelves are organized.

The kids books are just organized by hardcover, softcover, and board books.

I have really purged a lot of our books, so right now they are just on our shelf in the computer room in no particular order. I have some vases to break up the empty spaces and to hold up the books on a shelf that wasn't a full shelf.

I'd get rid of these, but then the shelves would really be empty. lol

We've got a real just moved in/just moved out look going on over here. lol

    Minimalist is an understatement.

Well, I've really tried to scale back my books, and buy and sell most of my books at a local paperback book store. That being said, I don't have a lot of books to organize. I keep self-help/inspirational books together, all of my farm guides are together. The rest of my books (fiction) are grouped by author.

I have purged, purged, purged my books, so all I'm left with is my "collections" and my topical books. On the living room shelves are my James Patterson, Dean Koontz, John Sandford, John Grisham, and Jeffrey Deavers. In the office are my frugal living and organziation books, and in the kitchen will go my cookbooks.

Our bookshelf is organized by member of the family... a couple shelves for Ron's books, a couple for Hannah's books, the rest for me! There are several knicknacks here & there, also. I just don't have enough books to fill the whole thing up anymore.

I have books in about four places in my house. In my sewing room/computer room are my vast collection of sewing, quilting and craft books. Also, have all the kid's homeschool books. My 70 plus cookbooks are in the kitchen. The kids have their favorites in their room and in the room where my DH has his computer are three shelves full of books. I'm an addict where books are concerned. I can't resist paperbacks for a quarter and hardbacks for 50 cents. I have way too many and have a lot up on half.com for sale. I don't know what I'll do when half.com goes away. I guess I'll try to get rid of them on ebay or else donate them to a good cause.

Most of our nonfiction books are by Dewey decimals, just like at the library. The fiction is sort of thrown together. I am hoping that Andrew, my organizing DS, will work on those some weekend!

All my cook books are together on a shelf in the family/dining room with a few ornaments here and there. The rest of our books are here in the study, in no particular order I'm afraid! LOL!

when I had a bookshelf (my office was changed to baby room). All my novels were alphabetical by author. The hard covers were novels together by size, and the other genres together by size as well. cooking, gardening, etc...

Right now most of my novels are in alphabetical order packed in boxes. Sitting on shelves above my computer actually. Except for a bunch that are in alphabetical order on a shelf behind the closet door.

My magazines are all by title and date in magazine boxes. Lined up nice and neat on a shelf along the ceiling in my laundry area.

Mine are just on the shelf by size. No particular order. I got rid of lots of our books though. So I only have one shelf for me.

Baylie has a bookshelf in her room and her books are just on there wherever they will fit!

No room for knick knacks. To a degree I organize by subject but mostly by book size in order to cram them all in.

I do clean out regularly but I have and love and refer to a lot of books.

Mostly they are by size. When I get to a series that I have they are in order. Cookbooks are for the most part in on of the extra cabinets in the kitchen.

I have two bookshelves. One for fiction which is ordered by author, and one for non-fiction which is ordered by subject. I weeded out when I moved, so I have room again for knick knacks
