Default Dh is winterizing the house...

and I'm thinking it'll sure make a difference!!

He's putting plastic on the upstairs windows. The downstairs are newer and don't leak. I'm so glad he started on this. Looking forward to keeping those darn utilities low this winter!

That's great! You'll all be snug as bugs in a rug & save some $$ too.

We need to do this too. At this point, I don't care how it looks, I just don't want $300 gas (heating) bills this year!

We have a 200+ yr old farm house and we have been changing out the windows little by little as we get the cash to do so, there are 27 of them. The rest Jack puts plastic on for the winter. So far he has the windows done that need it, now to do the screened in back porch and we're all set.

It doesn't look great but does save lots of $$!

Last year our heating bills were unbelievable and one side of the house didn't even get any heat flow to it - Yesterday we tore into the system and discovered that our bonehead contractor never connected the two sides and left one end of the vent completely open (he didn't cap it off) the heat was just blowing into the space between the top and bottom floor of our house - we fixed it and the house is so warm now I may have to put my swim suit on!!! So I think we'll be saving some money this winter!!

Dh will be starting on ours today (so he says) we need to check all the pipes to make sure they are well insulated, and he mentioned putting plastic under the house to help keep the cold from coming up through the floors

DH replaced most of the windows in our home now with energy efficient ones except for the livingroom windows. We'll replace them this next year. For now they will have to have plastic put up over them. I have to say the new windows in the bedrooms, kitchen and the new sliding glass door in the diningroom have made a huge difference in the warmth factor of our home already!
