    Default Decluttering 8/30/05

Well, I am really so impressed with everyone. I find it hard to believe anyone has any clutter left in their house! Then I go to my basement and realize, "Well, I've obviously got tons, and if I do, others must have at least something!"

However, I don't think today will be my day to attach the basement. Instead, I'm going to take a grocery bag and walk around my house and fill it up with trash from every room. That's my goal for the day. One bag, full of trash. I know it's there. Broken toys, useless paper, etc.

How about you? Remember, I'm not asking you to do a whole room or to fill up a bag. Just get rid of one thing...just one! You'll feel better if you do!

Well, I set out to work on the girls room, but got discouraged as soon as I started. I really need to do the 15 minute timer thing. But, I did pull out 4 things for the church yard sale, so I guess that was progress.

4 things is great! 4 times better than none! (Okay, mathematically, that's not accurate...it's 4 times better than 1, but you know what I mean!)

4 things is FINE. There are no magic numbers. Anything decluttered is a positive thing and a step forward. It get's easier with time and sometimes are more productive than others.

company coming works like a charm for me. I got the news a couple of days ago, and decluttered my bookshelves, and some other stuff to the charity.

Having the house in a mess due to painting always makes that need to clear the decks even stronger. Now I'm relaxing waiting for them to arrive, taking a break from painting and enjoying the decluttered spaces.

(I had a head start on the dejunking due to painting, as I'm painting closets as I get each area done)

Next dejunking is the closets in the annual switcheroo between warm and cool weather clothing. Usually I am ready at that point to take a clear unbiased look at my clothes and send a few packing, on to the charity for another life with someone else.

I'm thinking kitchen pantry too, as I don't need as much as I used to with the kids gone, and I'm going to donate some of my cans to dd and her friends.

Just went through the garage(well part-a small part- of it) and got two huge bags ready for Goodwill tomorrow... Had to cancel the yard sale due to DH dad dying, and I just don't care anymore.. It is all gone..... Slowly but surely I am going to get to where there is no more clutter.... Maybe by my twentieth wedding anniversary......

I did the big coffee table in the living room. Put some stuff away, and pitched most of it. Will do the last side table tomorrow, and the living room will be done!
