Question cleaning out my ice maker

Due to the contamination of our water I emptied my ice maker. I do wash it out on occasion but this time it seems to have picked up a funny odor. I tried baking soda and dishwashing liquid. Next I tried some bleach water. This morning I wiped it out with lemon juice. It's been out on my counter airing for two days. Any suggestions?

I'm sure you have already put it back into use, but the next time you take it out, try putting it in the sun for a little while.

My parents had a contractor unplug their huge chest feezer, which was full of, among other things, a LOT of meat. They spend most of the summer at their lake place, and I went to their house one day. For some reason, I decided I needed a popsicle, but what I got was a nose full of the most awful stench I have EVER smelled in my whole life. Fast forward to us cleaning it- after we got it emptied, the stench would NOT go away, so we called our extension agent. They recommended coffee, cinnamon, and finally, sun. We lugged that thing out in the sun, and it was the only thing that worked. Aren't you glad you asked?

lol Thanks Kimberly it's all back together now. I just gave up on it. It sounds like your stench was much more severe than mine is. My ice tastes fine but I will try the coffee, cinnamon and sun method the next time I clean it out.

I just wanted to clarify- you don't have to do those all- they just suggested those things. We tried the coffee, the cinnamon, crumpled newspapers and vinegar, etc, then they finally suggested sunning it. Honestly, if I had to do it again, I wouldn't waste my time with the others- I'd go right to the sun
