Default Worst Cleaning Advice You've Received?

So, I've gotten lots of great advice here on FV in terms of cleaning tips and ideas. However, I know that at least at some point in time, some cleaning advice, tip, or trick was a stinker. I want to hear about it (it will help me avoid it)! Here's mine:

My husband heard that it was a good idea to remove soap scum from a bathtub/shower with toliet bowl cleaner. Well, he failed to mention he had used this tip to his wife (myself) who took a shower. A day later I had a really angry red chemical burn on my arm. So, this little tip cost us probably over $200 in copays, antibiotics, steroids, and burn cream. So, note to everyone. Do NOT use toliet bowl cleaner in a tub/shower.

    Yikes!

(I'm embroiled in something right now and can't think of one, but I'm sure I must have one to share. Just wanted to sare my horror about the burned arm.)

Someone (not here) told me to use one of those shower sprays (to remove soap and hard water build up) to clean my bathroom sinks. They said let it sit for a little while and it works with just a swipe. Well it did do that alright. Didn't take me long to figure out it was also taking the finish off the sink and the faucet. So DON'T do that!

I read somewhere to use meat tenderizer to remove blood stains on my carpets. The meat tenderizer I used had red dye in it. The stain is still here and I had to shampoo the carpet twice to get the dye from the tenderizer out.

P.S. PrairieRose, Try a magic eraser I won't clean my tub without it now. I don't know about the hard water stains but it works for the soap scum.
