Default During this week before New Year's

I plan on doing some major dejunking. Between my parents and my fil, we brought in a lot of stuff (for the kids) and I plan on paring down the old stuff and freecycling whatever they don't play with anymore to make room for the new stuff.

I also already have a box filled for the consignment shop that is full of stuff that my students bought me (although I was very pleased that many of them chose to bake this year instead of give me gifts) and stuff that dh and I both wound up with at our respective work holiday grab bags.

I know that I'll be leading the decluttering challenge throughout 2006, but I want to get as much done this week as I can since I don't have to be at work, and dh took the week off to be with us and he can watch the kids if there is anything I need to do without them in terms of getting rid of things.

Anyone else planning on getting rid of some old things to make way for the new, or just generally using the week to straighten up before the new year?

I am right there with you. Thankfully we mostly exchanged gift cards this year. But I already have a box of stuff to take to the Salvation Army store.

I want to get rid of a lot of "old" things too. I will be working right along beside you this week.

That is the plan here as well! I already told both dks that we need to seriously think about what is in their rooms in the next few days and get out what they don't use or play with and get everything cleaned before we move the new stuff in!! Dd is good about doing that.........ds will be a nightmare since he insists he uses and plays with everything!!

I started that a few days ago but need to finish this week. DD got so much for Christmas and her playroom was already so full. There were two boxes of broken/missing pieces toys. I need organize her new stuff and pack up all the toys that are to young for her and will be to big for the new baby.

I agree. I need to do a lot of dejunking. I did a lot in 2005---but I need to keep going. Where does it all come from anyway? I think my junk is reproducing or something.

I'll be starting this week as well. I need to get rid of a lot of Christimas decorations that I do not use anymore that I came across when I was putting up the tree. I will be doing major dejunking this year for we are looking at buying a double-wide trailer and I will be cutting my living space by about 1/3 and my storage space by at least half.

I've been decluttering all day today. In fact, even have my christmas tree and decorations down. I'm so sick of junk I could throw up. Hopefully, I can get as much as I can get done before the new years comes in.

Ohhhhhh Amy, what a great idea -- with wonderful symbolism! Cleaning house and getting rid of the old to be able to start a fresh new year with less "baggage." Great -- I love it!
