AmyBoz!! I found a decluttering trick that is WORKING for our house!
I am so excited, it has been working!! I have a box located on my washer, one by dh's wardrobe, one by my closet too. What I have been doing is this...
When clothes come through the wash, out of the dryer if they are too small for the kids, they go into the box. I have been adding to it, over and over. I have several boxes stacked up now, out of the way. This spring a new consignement shop is opening, they'll go there.
Now the ones by mine and dh's closets are for clothes hanging in the closets. As I put stuff away, I have been challenging myself to pull out a random number of garments. Those, once they fill a garbage bag, get Freecycled. On average, i have been pulling out five garments each time I put laundry away. It's working out wonderfully.
And as a side benefit, the kids see me clearing out my clothes, and they have been doing the same with their own. If something i gets badly torn, they know to get it into the trash, if it is out grown they've been giving it to me to box up. I have been washin them first, so they'll be clean for the consignement shop.~~ Missy ~~

Whoo-hoo, Missy! That IS exciting! I have a box in Patrick's room and I'm doing the same thing. When I am putting away his laundry, anything I know he's outgrown, I pop in the box. When the box is full, I take it to my sister--in-law, who has a son who is 1 and 1/2 years younger than Patrick. I also have one in Julia's room, and her outgrown clothes go to the same sister-in-law, who also has a daughter who is 3 years younger than my J.
That consignment shop is gonna be giving you one big, fat check once they sell that stuff and your closets must be so much nicer to look at!
Doesn't it feel great to finally find a system that works for you?My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

it feels great. Slowly but surely we are feeling "free-er" in our closets. We don't even remember what we've tossed - thats how full the adult closets were!!!
Andf the kids are better able to put their stuff away too!!
Slowly but surely.
