    Default cold water detergent

Ladies i have afriend that repairs dishwashers, washers , dryers. etc. for a living. And I quit using the cold water detergent beacuse i have a 2 year old washer and many new washers lately have had to get repairmen to fix them lately. the cold enzymes that break down the dirt in the clothes aren't getting away form the clothes. If you use only cold water for everything , he told us at the time to use hot water twice a week and vinegar to get rid of the build up in the pipe leading to the washer. Right now I can't afford to get anything else fixed around here, so I changed back to Tide and sunlight. Whatever cheapest at the time. he just finds that its not one brand of washer thats doing it, and the cold water tide is hard on the pipes. I wouldn't quit it all together, just make sure you use hot water too.

great tip, thanks. I'm a hot water wash lover myself, but even friends who use cold or warm often do a hot wash for underwear, towels and sheets and that means there is another good reason to do a hot wash once in a while.

Thanks for the heads up. I use cold water for all my own clothes. I use hot for whites and towels. I use warm on DH's work clothes, I didn't feel like the cold was getting them clean enough.
