We are remodelling our bathroom!! This has been a long time coming. Two years ago the hot water in the facuet blew and last Aug. the cold water blew, both times flooding our floor and causing mess.
We are totally redoing it.
On thrus May 18 the porta-potti is being delivered, with the dumpster coming on Friday the 19th. We will come home from work that day and start tearing.
Everything is coming out - the floor all the way down to the joices underneath the house and the ceiling all the way up to the rafters. It is a large room so we are turning it into two seperate rooms, one bathroom and one laundry room
I am so excited!!!
Here are some before pictures - I will post during/after pictures as we go along.
this is the view as you are coming in from the kitchen.
my linen closet lol. I am creating a new "real" linen closet in my new bathroom.
My laundry area currently
the toilet area - see where the plywood shows thru the floor - that is where a weak spot is from the sink exploding. You sink thru the floor there.
another weak spot in the floor - this one by the laundry area.
ok - and this may be the only time I get to use this smiley - :shower:
HI Mandi,
We are just finishing up remodeling our bathroom. It was alot of work and mess but well worth it. A work of caution, we had water damage to the floor under the tile, we had no idea it was there! DH stepped on the floor and his foot and leg came throught the kitchen ceiling! As soon as I knew he was OK I had the biggest laugh (so did he) and wish I had a pic of his leg hanging out of the ceiling! So watch your step! I look forward to seeing your progress.
We completely renovated our bathroom 2 years ago ,gutted the entire thing.I just wanted to add that whatever amount you think its going to cost add a bit more to it,there is always little surprises when you start tearing things down
Have fun
How exciting! Thanks for the pics, it's so neat to be able to see a work in progress & the results. Good luck & glad your dh is ok. If that would have been me I would have hurt myself, lol.
Can't wait to see the new rooms.
Ps, aren't porta pottys fun? Had one at our house for a few weeks in the winter when we had to put a new septic in. Getting up to go in the middle of the night in the snow was ever so much fun.
Well today we went and bought our shower/tub combo and our toilet. We also picked up our vinyl flooring that we ordered last week.
Northernmom - I know what you mean by being over budget!! I am scared we are going to run out of money. I have a CC if we do, but I really don't want to use it. So far we are doing ok:
Portapotti/dumpster: $350 (right on budget)
Tub $65 (I budgeted $200 and got a great deal today!!!!)
Shower - $200 (budgeted $400)
Floor: $400 - this I forgot to even budget in at all!!!
The unknown is what worries me - I forgot to add in alot. I didn't think about faucets or shower heads either, but my dad says he will try to pick those up for us from his work. I need to call him later to see if he got them. Who knows what else I forgot. I added on an extra $500 to what I had anticipated but with being under so much on my tub/toilet that helps with what the floor cost, so really we are only $65 over. Later today we are going to get our lighting and vanity/mirror so I hope we find some more good deals.
I know how excited you are!!! We are starting ours the second week in june, we are ripping everything out too. I've already got most of the stuff, I've been buying it on sale over the last month. I budgeted $1000 and have only spent $600. We have everything except the paint and caulking and whatever surprises come up.
Last night we went out again and bought our vanity, sink and the recessed lighting. That was an expensive trip!! I had looked up the lighting to be $20/each, but that was just the lens!! I didn't know that you had to buy the housing seperate . . . so we went over a bit. But we have most of all the "big" items in our house now, just waiting for next Friday to come around. I have alot to do this week. Our washer and dryer will be down so I have to get every bit of laundry done, our hot water tank will be out of commission, so I have to pre-cook alot and have most of the dishes done. I can boil water on teh stove to do dishes, but I would rather not do that too often you know. I also want to give both doggies a bath so they dont' have to come into my new clean bathroom and get fur everywhere lol.
Our vanity is 5 foot long, so we ended up going with a double sink. We had orginally wanted a single, but they didn't have them in stock. The guy helping us said that houses sell much better with a double sink anyway, so we just went with that. (we hope to sell in 2 years).
We came home and discovered that the vanity was damaged, so we had to go back and get another one. That thing was so heavy that I was pissed that I had to carry it in the house twice, took everything I had and I hurt my finger But everythings good, it's all here, just have to get started now!!
Well we started - it's been an adventure so far. Friday night we got everything tore out except the toilet, hot water tank and the floor. Woke up Saturday and tore out the floor. That was so hard. It had six layers of floor, and the bottom two were totally rotted out. The top layer was all puzzle-peiced together and each little piece had about 20 nails in it. It was horrible!!! Sunday was not to productive. We got the hot water tank removed, tore out the little piece of floor that it was standing on and got all the nails out of the walls and floor. The bad part is that our gas broke, so now we have no gas - that means not heat and no stove to cook on. It's about 60 right now, which is cold to me!!! My dad is coming over to see what's going on, but I think the valve on the meter broke so we are going to have to call the gas company. Hope that don't cost any money!! Today we hope to get all the plumbing roughed in and all the floor joices reinforced. We found signficiant carpenter ant damage in the floor, the wood is just sawdust. I'm going to try to attach some pictures, but my computer is acting slow - so don't know if it will work.
our electrical mess - we have the ceiling all tore out.
at least we had a toilet for one more day - but it to is now gone.
and I wondered why I couldn't get my washing machine level . . .
the hot water heater was the last thing standing. Now it's gone also.
