Help with marble floors!
I have marble floors in the living room/dining area and down the hallway. All I've been told is to just use water to clean them. But that looks awful! It leaves streaks and spots that look almost as bad as anything that could spill and dry. I had my parents back in the States check on anything else I could use to keep them looking shiny (they're polished so they're very porous and easily damaged) but would actually clean them and keep them from streaking so badly. They got the name of a product but it's not something I can get here in Lebanon. I asked her to see if vinegar would work but the acid can damage the floors. Anyone out there have a good frugal way to clean marble without risking damage. Even I could just clean with it once or twice a month that would be an improvement.
Thanks, ladies!

Go to "Google" and type in "How to clean marble floors" a number of sites with instructions will pop up. I do this for anything I need to know. That having been said, I love the look of marble floors and have always wanted a marble bathroom. But a couple of years ago, I was in a hotel room that had a marble bathroom including the floor and when I got out of the tub, I slipped on a small puddle of water and took a bad fall. Can you please tell me is it common for marble floors to be dangerous and extremely slippery when wet, or was this probably just a fluke on my part? I still love the look of marble floors but I'm now a bit hesitant about ever really installing one.

Thanks for the replies. And, no, the slip in the bathroom wasn't a fluke. Found that out first-hand myself. There's a door between the living room and the hallway. One day, while mopping, I stepped back into the hallway to close the door after mopping it. My foot slipped out in front of me and, for the first time in my 38 year life, I did the splits all the way! It took weeks to stop feeling it, especially when it would rain. Ouch! But, if you want marble floors, go ahead. Just be careful when they're wet because they do get slippery when wet, especially when they've been polished, which is what makes them nice and shiny.

whatever you do DON'T DON'T use vinegar. the acid will lpermanently etch the surface and ruin the marble finish.
