Honestly, on that show I suspect many of those people are mentally ill and it makes me sad. There is a difference between being a bit lazy with the picking up and true hoarding and living in unsanitary conditions. I'm sorry, but pet feces/urine all over a house is not a normal way to live and I have seen that more than one time on the show.

I have trouble watching that show. It always makes me sick to watch those 2 ladies sniffing and touching dirty things in the house.

I saw an episode a while ago about a woman who lived on a farm, and allowed her pets to do their business all over her home. There is a line to draw between being lazy or untidy and being self destructive.

I had to stop watching the show after the "Farm" episode. That was just too much for me.

Watching the promo commercials was enough for me. Ick. I agree, big difference between being busy & a little untidy, and having some mental health issues that clearly are a factor for the problem.

Oh dear, these homes are beyond filth, they are dangerous. Quite frankly I am surprised that social services does not step in to supervise since many have children in those conditions. I do not see these people as mentally ill .I see them as very lazy and unstructured.(Those who seem mildly depressed improve once the surroundings are beautifed.)Just nasty, nasty.Sorry- had a Kim moment.

I love that show. It always makes me feel like my house isnt clean enough. And Im called a clean freak at home hehehehe. by hubby lol
I cant believe how some of them let it go that long, but then I have a sister who was like that for years. No amount of encouraging worked. They have to want to keep it up. And do so much every day. me and my sister or like day and nite.

I've only seen that show twice, but the filthy conditions of those homes actually made me feel much better about mine, LOL. I have rooms that are very cluttered, but not dirty. The one I saw had a woman whose dog pooped all over the house... it was so disgusting! I haven't seen any where the person had a medical condition or disability that prevented them from doing basic cleaning, so I have to believe there's something mental there.
I much prefer to watch "Clean House" or "Clean Sweep" because those shows are about clutter more than filth, and I get some great ideas & inspiration from them.

My mom when she has times of stress will let her house go. She had a ton of cats and just let them run the house. It was gross. Now she has gotten rid of all the pets and replaced the carpet and is doing better but it nasty for awhile.

Wow - I know Im a clutterbug but its only in certain areas - yes I've been able to contain it and I still continually pick at it until it diminishes. So far its been working. By no means is my house 'dirty'. I dust, sweep, empty the trash and recycling and circulate the air down here. Dishes get taken upstairs as well as the 'food' trash. ICK the thought of bugs in my home sharing my living space

I checked the childrenofhoarders website...and WOW. I never realized this was a disease. I've been in people's homes like this. Amazing how they let it get this way.

What channel is that on? Maybe it will make me feel better about my mess! LOL
I must say, I do not have kitty feces in my house, but once or twice, she threw up where I couldn't find it, and flies evidently got into it, and I had a horde of flies I had to kill! Luckily, they all gathered on the kitchen window, so they were easy to get rid of . ECK! I changed her food after that, and started giving her hairball meds and no more upchucking!
I will admit that my kitchen can get downright unsanitary at times, but it doesn't ever stay that way long.
