closet smelling nice?? ideas please?
The closet we have after a week makes the clothes not smell fresh very long. Its all painted, the sleves. Is there anything I can use under the clothes or in between to keep them smelling nice especially the blankets for a long time? without making stains on the sheets.

I put yankee candle tarts in mine closets, just unwrap and sit them in there.
You could whip up a sachet filled with lavendar, etc?
Maybe place fabric softener sheets in there as well?McD

I keep two open bars of Dove soap on a plate and place it on a shelf in our hall closet. I don't use bar soap and have over 30 bars of Dove to do something with. I swap out the soap every few months.
I keep cedar blocks/chips in the bedroom closets.

I open bars of soaps and use them to keep things nice smelling (ok, at least not musty). When I need a new bar of soap, I get an opened one out of the closet and put in a new bar.
And, depending on who you talk to, the soap being out in the air is supposed to make it last longer.

I never thought of soap either. I put all my linens in the dryer all sprayed with liquid soft/ water on them. They smell better now to try the soap.

Here are some things that have worked for me over the years, as we've had a few apartments and base houses that had some *funky* smelling areas. Thankfully not now, but I still like areas to smell nice.
Cedar chips or sachets
Scented drawer liners, laying on the closet shelf
A little dish w/ a cotton ball that has some drops of vanilla on it.
Baking soda in a muslin cloth, tied up and hung.
Spraying all the clothes with my favorite perfume, LOTS of it.
I do like the smell of Dove bars and fabric softener sheets, but the smell doesn't last long enough for me.

I ended up getting the shelf liners (3large ones in 1 pkg) at dollarama. i got 2 pkg's. it did 3 shelves. they smell like roses, it smelled really strong the first day but now its dulling down. I'll see how long it lasts. plus I'll still put the soap in there after 2 weeks to make sure evrerything smells clean and fresh.
thanks everyone. I really appreciate.
ps--i couldnt find any cedar chips at the time.

If you go somewhere that sells pet supplies sometimes they will have cedar chips. Also at places like Target and Wal-Mart they often have them in the section where they sell ironing boards, laundry dividers and hangers - just incase you decide to get some and give them a try.

I went to home depot years ago and got cedar shingles. I lined the drawers with them then put a piece of paper on top. Haven't had any problems with bugs.
The baking soda in the closet also helps.
After using the dry cleaning bags in the dryer, I put the cloth you put in the bags in the closet to freshen things up.
Love all the ideas. Hope to see more.

Have you tried putting sheets and things in containers or plastic bags? The idea being to keep the funky smell "out"?

no imhavent been putting them in bags or containers. I guess I probably should right after doing the laundry. Containers would cost more i think that clear bags. good idea though.
