Question Home water filtration system / H2O treatment

Last night we have someone to come out and do a check on our water. We have severely hard water. The level is 10gph. EEk!

We are seriously considering purchasing a water treatment system. One of those tall ones that you put in your garage of something.

Does anyone have any reccomendations of a brand? Any comments if you use one already?

We have a well. We have a lot of iron in the water. DH is the "well expert", so I will wing it the best I can.

    Our "filters":

We have a magnet that sits on either side of the pipe as it comes out of the well. It is supposed to do something with ionization or something to do with the iron in the water.

We have a "chunk" filter out at the well house too. It is one of those string do-hickeys that filters things out to like 0.000000005 microns or something (not really that many zeros, but I don't know how many there really are).

Then, it comes into the house into a light filter. It has a special (ie, expensive) fluorescent bulb in it that kills all (okokok, at least some) the germs (or was it bacteria).

Then, it goes into the water softener. This is a huge tub that you put salt pellets and two things that sort of look like helium tanks (closet thing I could figure to use to describe them). We use the green bag kind and it is supposed to somehow take out some of the iron or maybe it neutralizes it or something.

Then, it goes into the house to our taps.

At our kitchen sink, we have an extra "faucet" and that is for our reverse osmosis filter. That water is the water we drink or we use for cooking things like rice that will soak up the water.

I love my Kinetico softener. I am a city water girl, so the well water was tough for me to get used to, especially at first & being newly pregnant. I couldn't stand the "smells like a fist full of pennies" smell. Less detergent, lost of lather, no smell, easy maintenance. Good luck on your search.
