Painting ceramic wall tiles?
I have a 1973 blue bathroom that I'm at least wanting to up-date. The walls are all 4"x4" light blue tiles, but are trimmed all around with rectangular tiles in a deeper blue. They're probably 2 x 6 inches. I'm thinking I'd like to paint that trim in navy. I think it'll make a world of difference. Now though, I'm hoping I could find somebody who did this.
These are some of the things I need to know>
Besides paint, what else do I need? Did the paint start to chip or get discolored from the steam? The tiles are in the tub/shower too. And I know it won't be very hard, but still...
Thanks for any 'words of wisdom'!

I've painted tiles before. It's not hard at all.
You will need either sand paper or a sanding block (or a sander if you have a big area). You want to get the "shine" off the tiles to help the paint adhere.
Then go in to your local hardware store and let them know what you are doing. They actually have primer and paint designed for tiles and bathrooms. It is meant to withstand the heat and steam. It really is super easy. It just takes a little more "prep" work to get the tiles ready!
I painted my kitchen tiles a little over a year ago, and they still look great. And I always splash stuff on them and have to wipe them down. I did put a poly sealer on them since I knew I'd be cleaning them often!

Sarah, thank you. And of course I remember your tiles. I thought your theme and your idea wasn't just frugal, but so pretty too. Nice when you can pull "that" combo off, isn't it?

I'm glad I got to talk to you. I feel better about doing it now. My fear was chipped and peeling tiles.
That would be a disaster I wouldn't want to deal with.

Scott Paint carries a paint made for this and it works great. The prep is the most important part.
I saw this paint demo at an industry paint show a few years ago. They put it on glass and passed it around the room for everyone to try and damage. Even with car keys it held up .
Tyring to rembmer the name and having brain block. Will ask hubby when he gets home.
