1 big ratty old basket that I was using to store my yarn in. Switched the yarn around into hanging closet organizers, so I can finally toss the basket!

    Days 34-37:
Spent a few minutes here and there for days cutting up 22 clothing items for 6 fitted diapers. Threw away the scraps.

Lesson: Stacks and bags of clothes to recycle is clutter. Only a few minutes a day will turn the clutter into something useful if I work at it every day. I knew what I was going to make with the items I was saving so I could have started cutting out a long time ago and never gotten to the huge bag stage.

I forgot to post before. Took some stuff to GW

-a giant cat bed toy thingie

    -a VCR tape rack

-a rack for wine glasses (washed glasses and put in cupboard above fridge.

Lesson- I don't need dust collectors like the glass rack & the VCR tape rack. It's just more work and makes the house look dirty if I skip a week. Together they took up an hour of my time each week to keep nice. Reclaiming my free time one piece of clutter at a time!

    AND

The next time someone drops off some crazy toy their own cat was not interested in, I'll just say no thank you and hand it back.

I'm starting a bit late, having just found this thread. I'm in for 15 minutes of flinging a day. Today I went through my kitchen junk drawer. It was a mess! And yes, I flung some stuff in the garbage...and rearranged a lot of stuff. Found my other letter opener!

Today I took 4 garage sale boxes off the breezeway and carted them to GW after closing. Woo Hoo!

Lesson- If I want the breezeway clear of this junk I'm going to have to be in charge of the project. No more waiting for DH! or for when someone feels like helping. The last thing I wanted or felt like doing was putting a few boxes in the car and driving into town to donate, but I'm so glad I did. It's just a dent in a very big mess, but I feel better already!

4 more boxes off my breezeway and off to Goodwill. DH has not noticed yet, but there is lots of boxes. He gave me strict instructions not to touch it he wanted to do it, but that was a very long time ago and he's made no effort to see though with it. I'm wondering how long it will take till he notices things are disappearing, and will he care? Hopefully he will be relieved and happy to see this stuff gone. Crossing fingers.

Went through my binder of recipes that are clipped out of magazines with actual realistic views: Will my family eat this? Is it easy/non-time consuming to prepare? Does it require a ton of speciality ingredients?

Tossed a whole grocery sack full. I'll count it as '5'.

Also used up a notebook that I have had FOREVER.

    New total: 186

I took 4 more boxes from the breezeway and off to GoodWill tonight. When I pulled up there was a fellow in the dumpster up to his armpits almost, and an older gentleman who looked like he got caught with his hands in the cookie jar. He started doing a chicken dance trying to decide if he should put what he had in his hand back in the pile of donations left by the stairs, or should put it in his car. I just put my stuff by the stairs and left.

If they were digging through GoodWill's dumpster they must be pretty bad off. Goodwill sells everything, I can't imagine anything good was in that dumpster. I hope they found something useful in the stuff I left behind.

Lesson: No matter how bad it seems right now, it's not so bad that I'm standing in a dumpster up to my armpits looking for something salvageable. It's all a matter of perspective, feeling very Blessed indeed!

I spent Sat. (23rd) cleaning up the yard and tossing stuff. Does yardwork count?

Sunday I actually only had a couple hours at home so I didn't get anything done. Found some boxes and bags in the trunk of the car that are supposed to go to Salvation Army. Will take them in today maybe? If it stops snowing...

I spent an hour out in the garage with DH yesterday rearranging and tossing stuff. Why do we keep things? Found my candle making supplies and brought them in. I've been thinking about making some candles from the melted down bits of old candles.

Well, DH is on board with me cleaning off the breezeway. He came home today and I had the big trash barrel on the porch. I was chucking away when he pulled up. He didn't say anything, so I said that I was down 12 boxes on the porch. He was all, That's Great!!!! I can't help but be annoyed, even though I didn't want him to halt the process. If he was so okay with this then why say, Don't touch it! and make me live in this spider infested mess for 2 years? Grrrr....just a bit annoyed.

This afternoon I loaded the trashcan with a tower fan, a play baby stroller, a baby car seat, lots of baskets and odds and ends. Feeling lighter

I did take those bags and boxes to the Salvation Army. Also loaned a baby cradle to a friend in need for the next few months. Will decide what to do with it when it comes back. It's a maple cradle, so hard to get rid of (ETA: meaning I'm attached to it!). I've been repurposing it for years. It's 26 years old. I've been using it to store fabric. Maybe I should go through my fabric and de-clutter some of it.
