    Default Qustion about Dahlias

My grandpa gave me a bunch of dahlia bulbs (technically I think they are tubers) to plant...does anyone have any advice for me? I'm a total beginner!
    Thanks!

Ive never done dahlias, but I have planted irises. When you plant tubers , they basically lay on top of the ground with just a little dirt thrown over them.... i know it seems weird, but that was the way I was told to do it, and mine have been in the ground for probably 8 years and look great..... the only thing is I need to divide them, but who has time to do that?????

In some areas, dalias will not winter over and have to be dug each fall and stored. I don't know where you are in Oregon. My sister lives in the Seattle area and hers winter fine. Here in Boise, we'd have to dig them each year. You might check your zone requirements.

I'm in Eugene, I think they do fine over the winter...we don't get too cold here. =) Thanks for the advice. You ladies are so fast! Does that mean I have to get out there today and plant them?

Nope no need to go out and plant them today. the tubers make them self sufficient.

If you left them there... they'll still bloom!
