    Question Can't identify this plant

Someone gave me a plant for my office a few weeks ago and it’s still alive and flourishing! I have no idea what it is and am hoping someone would know what it is. It looks similar to a “corn” plan where it has long, wide green leaves, but the leaves eventually turn to a reddish/purple color at the top of the plant. It looks like it is getting too big for the planter that it came in and I was wondering if I could take it home and plant it in a bigger planter for outside. I don’t want to kill it. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Frugal Nurse, for the web site, but I didn't know how to answer some of the particulars so it couldn't name the plant. I might find a web site that shows pictures of plants and maybe I can pick it out. Thanks also, Michelle - maybe your dh will figure it out.

I don't think my dh will be of too much help...he says he can picture the plant you're talking about but doesn't know (or remember) the name. He did say though that it's not a full sun plant. Because it's been inside, you need to gradually expose it to the sun so the leaves won't burn. He says that morning or late afternoon sun would be best.

Not sure it helps much, but I hope so. Please let us know if you ever find out the name

It sounds like a Red Margined Dracaena. Google some images and see if it looks like one. I worked at nursery when I was in college, so I know just enough to be dangerous, lol. Sorry, I don't know how to take care of it, but you could google that too.

Thanks for your help, Michelle. I think you dh is right that I shouldn't plant it outside in a planter because of the sun. I might bring it home and replant it in a bigger pot.
Denise, I googled the name, but it wasn't that. The leaves are wider and grow close together in a longer shape, instead of branching out as much. The leaves start to turn that burgandy color near the top, while the bottom of the plant is totally green. Thanks for helping me try to figure out what this plant is!!!!
