Is it too late for a garden??
I live in zone 8 (I think-it may be 9).. We have been having extremely sad weather and I haven't gotten the garden planted yet. It hasn't been warm at all, and it hasn't been above 70 so far this month. I was just wondering if I can still get it in (starts and only a few seed like chard, carrots, lettuce).... Just wondering if any of you knew.. I was thinking of doing it this week... It seems kind of late.

start planting. You can get a great crop of cool weather crops for sure.
cabbage
broccoli
cauliflower,
peas
onions, etc
I'm sure you can get some warm weather crops in as well.Russ

My sister lives in Albany, OR and just started hers two weeks ago. You do have a rather short growing season, but it seems that if you used seedlings that you would still have plenty of time. I think she did just start pumpkins from seeds.
She always talks about the globe squash plants that she buys every year and how much she loves them. We don't have them down here so they sound interesting.
Who knows, you could have a great garden this season. You'll never know until you try.Erika

I was just talking with my MIL, her mom, and sister and they all said that because of the extemely mild weather everything is at least two weeks behind. Since most people I know try to get their garden in by Memorial Day, I am still within two weeks and hopefully will have an awesome garden. Thank you all for the encouragement.

I'm not started yet, and won't be until after this weekend. We have hot weather in the summer, but a long growing season, so if I can just keep things from burning up while they're getting started, it'll work out ok. I may start with plants instead of seeds. I'm thinking tomatoes and zuccini and peppers - lettuce I'll probably do from seed.
