Garden Harvest '08
The first of the spring harvest is coming in!
I've been picking sugar snap peas (sweet peas) for days and filled a Wal-Mart bag with what I picked this morning.
I have one cabbage head ready and 2 that will be soon. I thought I'd lost them all when some bolted, but it looks like I'll have some cabbage after all!
I have a lot of lettuce and spinach to pick. I think I'll pick some tonight for a green salad and then maybe some more in the morning. I'm not sure what I'll do with it all!
I've let some of my herbs go to seed. I did get a good harvest from them first. Ones I like to have fresh all summer (basil and dill), I'll keep trimming and not allow to seed.
It's exciting to have some fresh harvest coming in. Anyone else?

I'm so jealous!! Your garden sounds great! The only thing I've been able to "harvest" are weeds!

awww... we have plenty of weeds, too!
Hubby views the garden as a year 'round project so we usually have something going. I'm just not a fan of the winter greens so I let him eat what he wants of them and the rest gets put in compost or tilled under. When one veggie has finished, it's pulled up, composted and something else is planted in its spot.
He just came in from planting and told me the garlic should be ready pretty soon! I think he has something he wants to plant where the garlic is growing now and he wants it out of the way... LOL But, I think it'll be a couple of weeks before it's really ready. Same with the onions.

Just this morning I noticed that a few of my tomatoes are finally starting to turn orange-y red. I can't wait!
Have already harvested quite a few radishes, green beans and I keep parsley pretty much all the time.marie/andrea

The strawberries are coming in nicely in the family garden. We've been able to eat what we want without lots of extra. Its taken a few years to get them to this point but they are doing well this year. There should be some lettuce soon as well.

I have a couple of yellow squash and a couple of tomatoes that need to be picked. I saw a baby copperhead out there yesterday so I am too chicken to go pick them. I just need to get up the nerve....

The other day my youngest DD went out and picked about a half a sandwich baggie of strawberries.. They are quite small, so I have been watering them to see if that will help them plump up... I just put in the rest of the garden.. Probably won't see anything until mid to late July and August.

I harvested about 50 small/medium red and yellow onions yesterday. I need to go "clean pick" the peas today so hubby can compost the plants. And, I have another head of cabbage ready to harvest!

My strawberries are growing like crazy. I don't have anything else to harvest yet...not even close in fact: tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, and peppers. Oh, the blackberries will probably be ready in a week or two.

Cherries, cherries, and more cherries! A bumper crop this year with the two trees, thanks to no late freezes, and plenty of rain.

Yum for the cherries! I'm going to the nearby U-pick tomorrow to load up on raspberries and check on the blueberry and blackberry crops. It'll be jam making time soon!
