Honestly, it depends. Hybrids are not bad and many heirlooms are hybrids (cross-bred for certain traits). Older hybrids are stabilized, but if they are not 50+ years old, they are not considered true heirlooms. Hubby is doing some of his own hybridizing among his heirloom plants... the beauty of open pollination. This year he is crossing a prolific Indian popcorn with a japanese hull-less popcorn to see what he comes up with. He's hoping for a prolific popcorn with soft hulls.

That said... definitely, always, non-genetically modified open-pollinated plants/seeds! And, lots of seed saving!

We use the hybrid seeds when planting.

I have one hybrid, its the first time I've bought hybrid seeds. But, italian ice cherry tomatoes (white), are just too interesting to say no to.

I do a mix. I prefer to try to buy heirloom ones. But, cherry tomatoes are only hybrids.

One of these days, I keep thinking that I will save seeds for next year.
