Update on our little farm
Well lets see. The corn, beans, squash are now producing. The potatoes have been mounded twice and will do them again this weekend.
Onions, tomatoes, garlic, turnips and spinach are growing leaps and bounds.
Lavender is starting to flower and sage has come back from me cutting it back from last year.
Have 3 hens on eggs. 1 is due to have chicks by hopefully this weekend. 2 are quarantined with their eggs because they have rooster rash.
have 2 of my young roosters trying to crow. Too funny.
Gizmo is still in the brooder. Has almost all of her feathers.
Have a hand milker coming so not so hard on my hands to milk Arwen. And getting another milker. Her name is Holly. More than likely in the next 2 weeks. Have to get another stall built for her.
still have 19 chickens. Getting a hen and her eggs this weekend from a girlfriend in another county.
Have about 2 months wood cut and stacked for winter. Have many trees downed that have to be brought down and cut up.
Hansel and Gretal our New Zealands are just buzzing along. They could care less what is going on around them.
The Duke is upset that Gruesome and Twosome are in quarantine but hey he did it. He stands under their cage and just stares. MEN!!!
The cats and Freya are fine. Pandora did bring a little bunny home the other night and left part of it laying on the back stoop. Did the shovel two step at that.

It sounds like you are multiplying. How many animals are your goal 19 chickens sounds like a lot to me. But I am ignorant on how many you would need.

ok... I've never heard it called that. We have 30+ hens here and too many roosters (until the weekend anyway). We have one poor hen that is almost naked! I keep wanting to separate her but DH acts like I'm crazy. We lovingly call her 'Miss Popular' and is one of my favorites. I keep hoping she'll sit just to get a break and let the feathers grow back.

Debbie
I would seperate her. The main reason is to give her a break the other is:
When chickens figure out that she has raw places on her they can and will become cannibals. Found that out the hard way. Unless you want to lose her I would seperate her.
We have our Gruesome and Twosome in a rabbit hutch. However here goes another: make sure if you want them to keep laying eggs while she is put up put a piece of wood over the wire or they will quit. Dont know why but thats the way it is. Hens are funny.

you can also make a saddle(honest) to cover the bird and there is a hole for the tail feathers to come out of. the flap under there will keep the roo from bothering her until she is healed.

We always throw the rooster in with the ducks and geese when he bothers the hens too much.

Ya, I wouldn't want rooster rash.
Thanks for the update Barbara, love hearing what's going on.~*Darlene*~
