Default How do YOU keep squirrels out of your garden?

They're picking my tomato plants clean! We put up a wire fence but it's a joke, they still find their way in.

I've eaten 1 cherry tomato so far this season because everything else disappears before I can harvest it.

I wanted to can this year, but at this rate, I'm not even going to have enough to make one lousy batch of salsa.

I was told to tie aluminum pie pans to an overhead line so they would dangle and blow in the wind to frighten away birds and squirrels. I haven't tried it yet because I didn't get a garden in this year.

I've heard that sprinkling cayenne pepper all through the soil is supposed to do it. You can get it cheap at the dollar store.

Also, if you go to www.recipezaar.com you can search for a recipe for "liquid fence." You spray it all over and it's supposed to keep pests away.

Sometimes alternative food sources help too. Try feeding the squirrels elsewhere.

I know what we do to them here but you probably don't want to do that.:gun:
You could always use have-a-heart trap & catch relocate them. Don't think that helps much tho. Hope you get a handle on them.

Try putting a fence or poles/stakes/sticks around the garden. Then use one of those barricade red (danger) tape to wrap around the garden, on the upper & lower part to keep the critters out.

Or you can use CD's. Like all the junk AOL cd's or music CD's that no longer play.

I've heard that the CD's work...and I would think that the pie pans would too.

Maybe just try all the suggestions! Collectively...something should work!

We haven't had squirrel problems, just bunnies. We put up chicken wire to keep the bunnies out and the squirrels are staying out too, but I think that is becuase they are more interested in my bird feeders!

Cayenne Pepper didn't work for me. Our solution is not for the weak at heart: my husband shot them. Now the owls that live in our backyard keep them in check.

I was going to suggest that, but I was afraid of the response.
