Beautiful, bountiful looking garden pics Suki. Are the the little yellow tomatoes sun sugars? We *love* those. Have em every year.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

Those are Coyotes, an heirloom variety. They are quite tasty.

WOW!!!! Our family plot at mom's is really growing good. It gets bigger and better every year but it's nothing like that. It looks wonderful.

Beautiful! Love your hummingbird moth, haven't seen one here yet but they should be soon. Bee balm just popped & they love that.

Darlene have I never heard of a hummingbird moth, but we have them here in Hawaii! I recognize it in the piccie. I have always wondered about them and no one could tell me what they were. Thank you for the insight.
    Thanks!

Hubby gets ALL of the credit. I mostly just harvest and preserve the garden.

    The garden is approx. 46' x 72'

It is all organic. Our entire property is organic.

There are too many heirloom varieties to list. Hubby trades seeds and enjoys collecting rare seeds. His garden is about 99% heirloom varieties. The ones that aren't technically heirloom are non-genetically modified. Heirlooms are a bit more susceptible to various problems (bugs, disease), that's why they became rare. Growing them organically is particularly challenging, but hubby does quite well with it.

I love the hummingbird moth, too!

Hubby gets credits for the pics, too. Taking pics in his garden is his other hobby.

What a beautiful garden! I've been feeling overwhelmed with my 1000 sq ft this year and yours is huge! It must take you forever to get it all put up. Sure is yummy in the winter though!

We grow a huge variety and share a lot with family and friends. We keep thinking we'll get to the Farmer's Market but our harvest never seems to jive with their schedule. We lose some to bugs and critters, but that's part of the balance. A lot of it is allowed to go to seed so that hubby can collect them and trade them for other seeds or put into his seed bank.

I preserve quite a bit when I have the time to do so.

I only preserve what I can of it. There is such a mix of flowers, herbs and veggies, that there's really not too much of any one thing. Except green beans right now. We also try to focus on rotating what we are planting as the preserve crops. This year it's green beans and corn. Last year it was tomatoes and squash. We plant some of everything but more of the preserve crops.

Regarding the size of the garden... that's the culmination of 12 years of work and it's still a constant work in progress. Hubby started with one raised bed and kept amending the soil and altering the layout.

This is a sketch he drew about 2 years ago of his garden layout. It's been modified somewhat but is still in this general design. The satellite dish pond is in the middle and compost piles are in each corner.
