Deer destroyed my Asian pear trees last night
I have been eagerly awaiting to try some Asian pears and had some really nice ones on my new trees I had planted this year. I had fenced the trees off with heavy plastic fencing about shin to eye level high. Every day I would go in my back yard to examine them and check on their development, cradling the pears in my hand anticipating their ripening to fruition.
When I woke op this morning I had found the trees shredded and ripped in half. All the pears had been stripped and the branches strewn around the yard. Sickening how nature works sometimes - they come in the night and I wake up to their destruction.
But I guess it reminds me that nature does not bow to me ~ I bow to nature.
Next season will try it all over again and replace the trees with new ones and heavy metal fencing from ankle high to over my head in height.

I dig the well from which I drink,
I farm the soil that yields my food,
I share creation, Kings can do no more."

That's tragic!! I think you should immediately contract some hunters to go supply you with venison to last you the winter as a replacement!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Overgrown rats is what they are.
I'm sorry they ruined your beautiful plant.

I'm sorry. I had a similar issue with squirrels in my tomato beds this year and it was disappointing to say the least.

I'm so sorry for the destruction and the loss of your fruit trees. How aweful!
This year the wind blew so hard it blew my peaches off my dwarf peach tree and then my grapes wierded out on me and even the birds wouldn't eat them!
It's so discouraging but....better luck next year.

I'm sorry to hear about the dear destroying your pear trees.
We had tons of rain this year and lost all of our broccoli. We also had some bad wind and it pushed ALL Of our corn over and we have had NO corn yet. I don't think we'll get any - there are a few places where I see the husks but not many at all. We did get a few bell peppers and a little bit of potatoes (like 3 lbs) but that's it so far.
good luck next year.

Because wild animals wouldn't eat the easily found treat? I don't think so.
As soon as the Deer file a suit for slander, we'll stop. Oh - they're DEER - they don't know WHAT we're saying about them!calling them overgrown rats is cruel
I grew up in WV. My granddad was a Farmer. We had problems with rabbits eating our garden, and gramps had problems with birds eating his corn. What's your point?i have lived in many environments, i am thankful now to live in a semi rural area, i have never had a problem with deer since being here
People cultivate crops. Animals eat what they find. Hmm - animals wander, find crops, eat crops. Nothing to do with environment destruction - animals simply wander.Last edited by Greebo; 09-01-2008 at 05:48 PM.
