    Default produce storage

anybody got tips, ideas or internet links for storing veggies that do not do well frozen or canned?
I'm talking about onions, taters, etc...

If I need to build something I will include that in my winter project list. TIA.

Onions and taters I just store in baskets, seperate from each other, in the pantry.

Heads of lettuce a I wash, pat dry, wrap in a paper towel, and then store it in a Ziploc bag.

Onions and potatoes should never be stored together however because of the moisture content of the onions. For short term storage keep them in separate baskets in the kitchen... for long term storage I would think a root cellar would be ideal, cool, dark and dry.

I have seen Alton Brown demonstrate the use of old nylons to separate the onions with a knot tied between each one, this way they are not in contact with any moisture.
