    Default Garden update

I haven't posted much in here since joining, mostly because not a whole lot happened in my garden. lol. Like anything else I'm hoping practice makes perfect and my youngest daughter really loved helping. I'm already planning next years garden and will definately be making some changes. So my question to you all is.....what did you learn your first year gardening?

I learned planting in neat rows is a must, especially when you don't know the difference between a weed and a carrot sprout.

I learned I'm not a neat row person. It's just too .... straight and structured? I don't know I'm weird or something but I seemed to go my own way with the planting and realized I preferred planting a "block" of this over here, a line of this over there, a border of this around that, etc. It's just all crazy out there but I also learned the value of markers for the veggies so I know for sure where to look for my goodies to sprout.

I also learned to mulch like a mad woman. That helps as well in knowing wear things should be popping up because the rest of the plain dirt areas are covered. Helps with holding in moisture during the heat as well.

The most important thing I learned to date .... 5 abundantly producing squash plants are FAR too much for my little family of three. Holy cow, that was way too much squash.

So very true! For carrots it is not bad, but for other plants it leaves a lot to be desired.
