Default Is it possible ? chicken question

    HI all

I FINALLY got my chickens 2 sweeties

after 2 months one got a nice red comb and started laying eggs but the other despite getting fatter still has a reddish smaller comb and has never laid any eggs

i am sure it isnt a rooster, it doesnt crow or dominate, the laying hen actually takes the lead all the time

they are inseperable so it doesnt matter if hen 2 lays eggs but i was just wondering if it is possible she is just never going to, so I dont have to keep on thinking of watching her for eggs.

    thanks!

What breeds are your chickens, some breeds lay earlier than others. For instance my red sex links started laying at about 12-13 weeks, my leghorn at 10weeks, my brahmas at 15-16 weeks, and my easter egger at about 20 weeks. The one that isn't laying could be some breed of rose comb (my brahmas are rose combs and have tiny combs). Also she may already be laying, just not on the same days as the other one mine don't all lay everyday so with nine chickens I usually only get 5 or6 eggs a day. Good luck to you.

    What is their diet?

Is it possible she's hiding hers? I've heard of pullets waiting till they are let into a run or to free range for the day, finding a nice low bush to go lay a few a week under.

Is it possible one is laying one on one day and the other laying an egg the next?

Really, she will begin to lay when her little body is ready. Is she beginning to molt? That may slow her down. How about the amount of daylight they get? It may be affecting one more so than the other.

Don't give up on her. She'll begin soon I bet. Keep a supply of calcium available, a good layer feed down and such, and eventually she'll surprise you.
