Pie Warmer question
The 1912woodcook stove that dh bought me has a metal box I guess it sits ON the stove. It is called a pie warmer. Does anyone have any idea how to use it?
I figured that you put the thing on the hot stove but do you put a pan of water down below or just put what you are warming up on the shelves until it is warm?

Is it like a two tiered tin box with a door? I have one too....I was told it was a roll/bun warmer, but I'm not sure how it works...

that is exactly it. the man that sold dh the stove said that it was a pie warmer. I suppose you can warm anything in it but I was wondering if water should be put on the bottom shelf to keep breads, pies etc. from drying out.

Not like that but I guess close. The one I have is a big metal box with shelves like an oven in it. Oh and yea I guess the square pan at the bottom (that I discovered last night)is for water to moisture. Like you do in a microwave with rolls and breads and stuff.
The doors(2) are metal also.

18", 3 wire racks inside, and a pan for water. also has a hole at the right corner I assume for steam to escape.

It used to be very common for women to warm plates before serving food on them. You would place the plates into the warmer and warm them before plating up supper that way your hot food stayed hot.
Also it was used to keep plates full of food warm for those who were late to dinner. Yes, a pan of water in the bottom kept things from drying out also proved humidtity to the house. Moms also warmed baby diapers in there.
If you were making a meal say pancakes for a large group you would keep the first ones warm til you served the whole plate.
My Old Order Amish friends have a stove like this and these are a few of the things I've seen her do with hers.
Hope it helps.

I was sure that someone here on the FV would know how to use this thing. Warming plates sounds like a super idea. Man is this thing gonna come in handy this winter. Thanks all.

I always warm plates if I'm using the oven anyway. And I put salad bowls/plates in the freezer or fridge.
