Can you have chickens in your town?
In another thread of mine I noticed people wanting to have them but being unsure if they are allowed. So I thought I'd share some links with you that you can use to find out if they ARE allowed...

Yup! Lots of chicken processing plants and houses all around me, and my yard is full of them. too. I just have them for the eggs and the entertainment, but my daughter has them too, and they EAT them, just had chicken and dumplings tonight from her free range chickens, yummy

Well I wouldn't be ready for it for a while if it was allowed here, but it would be interesting to find out. I didn't see my city listed there, and they didn't have anything posted on the city website...may have to call and ask some weird chicken questions

Thanks for those websites. Unfortunately my city wasn't listed. I am still trying to find out if I am allowed to have them in my city. I only need 2.

We can have 2 in my town.
2 chickens and a goat or a cow or a horse or a pig. But no roosters! The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. -Thomas Jefferson

Yep, they're allowed in my neck of the woods. All farm animals are permitted (and we're within the City limits).

You can also check your own city's website. Ours lists out the city statutes and specifically has one for animals. Everything from how many domestic pets allowed to live on the property to what farm animals were allowed and what isn't. So that is a quick way to check!

Oh I found it. It's not allowed in West Allis, WI. Here's the code. The exception it mentions is for pigeon keeping.
7.12(2)(a) The keeping of turkeys, geese, roosters, chickens, ducks, and other fowl, except as provided in sec. 7.12(7), is prohibited, nor shall any pen, coop, or other structure be used or maintained for the keeping of such fowl.

NO WAY!!! Sorry, but I could never live with chickens. When we 1st moved to Long Island from Brooklyn, the previous home owners offered me their 4 chickens. Well as I got about 15 ft. from the caged area, I got a good whif of them and almost fell over from the smell LOL!! I really love the country, but my meats better come from the butcher shop.
You know the old saying...."You can take the girl outta Brooklyn, but you can't take the Brooklyn outta the girl!" I just got too much cement in my blood!
I really wish I could be like alot of you guys sometimes. I think "country ways" are awesome!

ROFL, yeah, thats what I thought it would be like too. Then I met a lady with a few in her yard...6 i think it was. Didn't smell a thing. She cleaned their pens etc daily. And so I adhere to that, cleaning daily and my girls are happy and stink free. Doesn't hurt that I mix a few bits of dried lavendar flower in their bedding. Calm chickies!!

Nope, because I don't have an acre of land. Funny thing is the shed in my back yard was once a chicken coop, and the area where I keep my garden was the fenced pen.
