getting ready for the garden
walmart got in the 20 cent seeds, so now have 68 packets of vegetables & flowers.
I'm saving the black & white newspaper to make the pots like was posted on a thread here last year, they worked really good and didn't cost anything.
We are going to start digging out sod this weekend, to make bigger areas, its suppose to be in the 60's. I can't wait to feel the dirt in my fingers!
Wanted to add, some of the seeds are heirloom.Last edited by pinetree; 02-20-2009 at 04:06 PM.

Woo hoo! Aren't you just getting excited? I am. I picked up heirloom seeds at my local feed store a while back. They were on sale 10 packs for $1.00!! We have 30 packs. Just vegtables for now. We still have about 4 feet of snow but every day that goes by is a day closer to planting!

^ How to make newspaper seed starting pots.
We have our potatoes, onions, and shallots planted (last week). I'm waiting until next weekend to plant all of the other spring veggies and flowers since we are expecting some rain this weekend and cooler temps. While we are waiting DH is going to be building the herb garden so we can have a full little herb garden all on it's own without taking up room in the veggie garden.

Yep, thats what I use for the pots. Thanks for posting that.
We can't plant up here until after Mothers Day, but we figure we might as well get the ground worked while we can. I will get the tomato seeds started. The package says 10 weeks.Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

that's great...thanks! i did the same concept on a smaller version with the tp rolls that i cut into sections and 'nestled' onto a stryro meat tray...they don't have bottoms though and you push the plant and dirt out the top or bottom (or just plant it all in the ground)...those are the ones i slipped into the bread bags to make mini-greenhouses now...
i like that these will make for a bigger pot and i will use the idea when i sell some of the plants in my garage sale coz i don't want to buy any pots and the egg trays are too tiny and will need repotted....
i will get making some of these very shortly.... hurry spring......!

Thank you for this link. I had heard about these, but thought that I had to buy a special tool to make them. I can't wait to make some for free now!
