Any one else planting a 3 sister's garden this year?
And before some of you ask. . . .
"Three Sisters" - sisters who would never be apart from one another- sisters who should be planted together, eaten together and celebrated together. Corn, beans, squash.
Any good recipes or ideas for the gardening method?

I did this last year. The corn didn't grow well , but it got big enough to support the bean vines. The squash did great too.

Yes, but I will need a new spot this year. There was just too much shade in the area I picked last year and the corn was stunted.
We are getting really creative with our gardening this year to find more places to grow food without tilling up more of the lawn. A lot more container gardening.

I will plant sugar snap peas all along my chainlink fence first. Then when they are about done, I will plant some kind of climbing bean (pole beans maybe) in their place. Then, in the garden area we will be planting squash, zuchini, tomatoes, and maybe potatoes. Definately onions and some lettuce. I have such a tiny garden area that I am thinking about putting some things in containers like cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. I have to find a good place for pumpkins this year bcs we really missed having them last yr. Would love a few green peppers too. I am still in the dreaming and planning stage!!!!

Only two sisters...
I did grow the beans & squash...heirloom varieties..last year so I saved the seeds. the dried beans are from the native amer. tradition...black turtle beans & hidatsu shield figure beans...both for drying & storing.
both grew very well. the black turtles are bush variety & the shield figure are pole, a nice big whitish bean. I saved all these for this year, we had enough black turtles to have for eating & storing.
I did pumpkins & another winter squash & saved their seeds.
Instead of the corn, sunflowers trellised the shield figure pole beans.

I thinking about trying it. I've grown all three at one time or another, but never all together in the same bed, so I might try this year.

The trick to get the three sisters to grow well is to put fish meal in the bottom of the hole first. Traditionally they threw a dead fish about a foot down, but well, that's just GROSS.
