We are hatching chickens!
Ok, well it is at school but right now we have two incubators with 42 eggs in each. I don't know who is more excited, me or the kids. THey are jumping at the bit to name the eggs but thankfully our chicken lady told them that we had to wait until we saw them hatch. I am learning more about chickens that I ever thought I wanted to know..lol. All of the kids have it marked in their chicken books when they should begin hatching....and I don't think we will get much done then. Our chicken lady (that is what the kids call her) will be back in 10 days or so to candle them so we have a better idea of how many might hatch. It is so exciting!
(I did have one mom call laughing because her dd came home and announced that we were having babies at school...that we could watch. She just wanted to make sure that it was the egg project and not something else.)

We did that at preschool and the kids loved it! My good friend ended up taking the 2 turkeys we had and raising them on her homestead! It is so fun to watch.

That sounds like such a great experience! I'd love to do that with the kids. Wonder if I could get DH on board!

We are down to 24 eggs...after we candled them, we discovered that there was only the 24 with something in them. The room downstairs is down to 22. We had a few chirps today..and look forward to the"eggs" talking more toward the end of the week. 21 days will be up Thursday morning so we should have babies by the end of the week. They will return to the farm after they hatch. The kids have had so much fun doing this. Each they they have to check the temp. and water levels. I wil hopefully be able to get pictures...now that I am turning into a picture taking fool.

I did that about 25 years ago with the help from my Mother Earth News. I remember how critical the temperature and the contstant turning of the eggs was. More hatched than I expected. The children and I came up with 3 doz. names for them all. My favorite name was Princess Laya (think Star Wars Princess Leya.) LOL I named the rooster King Tut because of his strut. Meanest rooster I ever saw.
