diy Vertical Bag planting/growing
http://www.casasugar.com/1556923
I thought you might be interested in making your own vertical "bag" planters with simple materials. This would allow for more plants in smaller spaces with less watering and no need to worry about weeding, bugs, etc. This would be ideal for small things like strawberries, cherry tomatoes, herbs, etc.
I am looking to do more container gardening this year so anything that will conserve watering and labor is what I am looking at.

My brother just got an "inverted" tomato planter for his birthday over the weekend. It was really neat!
This is what he got:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Felknor-Ventures-82506-Upside-Down-Planter/dp/B0001WYNP0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1236602995&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Felknor Ventures 82506 Topsy Turvy Upside-Down Tomato Planter: Patio, Lawn & Garden[/ame]
Really similair to what you posted, but a bit different. He doesn't have room for a garden, so for him this was really cool!

They are good for growing strawberries as well as flowers. That topsy-turvy would save space I could grow tomatoes on my clothes line and have room for more veggies in the garden.

I made my own 'topsy turvy' tomato planters last year out of 3 liter soda bottles. They were a flop. I got one teeny tiny tomato out of 4 tomato plants in these kinds of containers. They needed to be watered far more often than my tomatoes in a bucket.
This year, I'm sticking with putting them in the ground or in my usual buckets. I get far more tomatoes with far less hassle.Last edited by YankeeMom; 03-09-2009 at 12:28 PM.

I did something like that one year for strawberries, but I used an old gym bag..one of those sort of cylindrical ones that had some holes in it.
It didn't work too well for me, but the dirt overheated in the sunlight and cooked the strawberry plants. Maybe if it was in a more shady spot it would have worked better.
