Ever seen that Roll and Grow commercial?
They're advertising this product here in Canada that has the seeds embedded into this biodegradable material that allows thousands of flowers to bloom. I was walking through Superstore today and saw that McKenzie is starting to sell their seeds in Seed Rows. It's basically a strip of seeds that you put down in your garden and they're supposed to be spaced exactly as it tells you to sow them in your soil.
Anyone tried these yet?Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

I've seen the commercial ... not sure how much they are .. but would be curious to know the price difference between and that seeds etc .... usually there's a price attached to convenience
.... I haven't tried them myself .. look pretty & easy .. but not sure ..

I tried the roll and grow the first year we moved into our house. Which was about 7 years ago...It was suppose to be wildflowers. I ended up with a huge messy mass of vines!
I am still trying to kill all the horrible vines 7 years later! But that was just my experience!

The ones I saw were kinda expensive. My understanding is you still have to prepare the soil so I figure I could 'scatter' seeds just as easy.

Ahh I don't want a viney mess!
Ok, so we count those out then...
I'm still trying to get rid of the mess that we had when we first moved in here. The old owners had a marble bird bath surrounded by this green leafy decorative foliage. Even with all of the digging and stuff, it spreads like wildfire. So I'll have to avoid the Roll and Grow then.

I used them once a few years ago, nothing really came up, I had to dig it out and plant seeds and plants.
Maybe they have improved, but I wouldn't waste my money on them.Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

We have those here in the states now, too. I seem to recall something like this from my childhood, you could either buy or make a strip to plant.
My guess is now it is a response to the undereducated novice gardener... and a way to put less seed in each pack, since they can dictate exactly how much you need this way. Seed packs have been getting smaller for years.Use it up, Wear it out,

Yeah my biggest problem is that I never know how many seeds to drop in each hole and some of the seeds are far too small for me to put just one in.

DD wanted one of the roll and grow wildflower mats a couple of years ago, so I let her get one. It didn't work very well. So I called the company where I was connected to possibly the stupidest person in the world....she said she thought the seeds might be upside down...

that's funny, upside down. Yeah, you got a winner on the other end of that phone line!!
I have had neat results by cutting the mats and planting them in planters.
BUt in the garden where they can spread and take over, MIL did it once and her whole flowerbed was taken over by all kinds of unidentifiable stuff.~~ Missy ~~

So my best option would be to sow a row of dirt and then drop a couple seeds every spot?
