    Default Portable Greenhouse.

I'm so excited! Got a portable greenhouse over the weekend and have a good portion of my seeds sown and in it already. Now hopefully the cat (he's into everything) will comply and KEEP OUT of it lol! It's got 4 shelves (2 ft. deep) and is on wheels so that way I can roll it to the patio doors during the day and then into the kitchen for the afternoon/early evenings sun.

Got it at Lowes for around $35, but Target seems to also have their version of it too.

That is really nifty, I've never seen one, Thanks for the link, I'm going to see if we can get one. I sure would like to get my kitchen back from all the seedings!

That is nice. I saw one for $30 in the Big lots ad. Didn't check for the size though. I'd really like to get one too.
    Thanks for the link!

    Well, this post inspired me.

It occurred to me I have a metal shelving unit I have no real use for, picked up free at a yard sale. And a couple yards of clear plastic laying around doing nothing for me ($4). So I sewed up the plastic into greenhouse walls this afternoon, making a zipper door (zip chain, two zipper tabs, two zipper pulls, about $1) like the boughten greenhouse has. I haven't decided yet what I'll use to make the roof out of but I have some scraps of a tarp that would work ($0). Then I'll make a base for it (scrap lumber, $0) and put wheels on the base (recycled, $0.) A four-inch thick concrete block will make a dandy weight to keep it from blowing over when it's outside (left over from the single-wide trailer we used to have, $0.)

Seems like a great $5 investment. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. Thanks for posting!

Spirit Deer, necessity is the mother of invention...

I use two plastic basememt window well covers (you can get them at Lowe's but mine were free) clamped together with a couple spring clamps to form a dome. I use it as a cold frame pre-spring and late fall, and have also started seeds in it. In a mild winter, I've grown greens all winter long in it.

I set the plastic dome out in a nice sunny corner of the garden that is protected from the north wind. Using L-shaped tent stakes, I keep it from taking flight, although the dome-shape of it does a very good job of that. I can prop them open or open them up during the day to do the watering. I've even swept snow off of them from a late March snow to pick leaf lettuce and spinach.

If you need some additional heat in your greenhouse, you can paint some bricks black to absorb heat during the day, and use them inside the greenhouse at night.

That is so neat! We are having "kitty" issues too, I can't seem to keep him out of my plants no matter what I do!!

Sounds great! Unfortunately, I didn't have the materials laying around. But I'm still happy with my purchase It will get a LOT of use in years to come I'm sure.

I have never seen one of those before. This is my first year with the seeds and this would be something to look at getting. Thanks!
