    Default bulbs or seeds?

what do you plant most, bulbs or seeds?
Most of mine are bulbs or potted and transferred. The seeds I have planted here just don't do well. We have clay/shale soil and it is hard to get seeds to grow.

We plant a combination. Due to our growing season, we must by some plants. We buy cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and tomato plants. Everything else, we plant as seeds. Each location and soil type presents a unique challenge as far as what to plant and in what form to plant.

I would say most of what we plant in the vegetable garden are seeds, with the exception of anything in the onion family and potatoes. I have tried planting onions by seed before but they just didn't take so we by the sets. All of the other vegetables grown are from seed. All of my flowers and herbs in the other garden are planted as seeds as well. The only thing that didn't come up that I broke down and bought a small plant to replace where the seeds were supposed to grow was rosemary. Seeds just do very well where I live, which I am very thankful for.

A lot of my flowers are spring bulbs or perennials. Our soil is not good here, either, and on the side of the garage where it is driest in the summer I have put in native wildflowers. It has taken a couple years to get them established, but they do very well in poor soil with almost no water.
