    Default Solar Ovens

Does anyone else use a solar oven? I've used one for several years now and have two of them. The Tulsi Hybrid Solar Oven has an electric back-up. http://www.eartheasy.com/solar_oven.htm

If the temperature of the solar oven gets lower than is safe for food, it will heat the oven to a food-safe temperature. This is a good feature if you get unexpected cloud-cover that would drop the cooking temperature. As a secondary use, you can use the electric portion to cook in the solar oven ANYTIME - much like a giant crock-pot. Great for camping.

The other one is a Sun Oven - http://www.sunoven.com/ (you can see a video at this site).

Each of the ovens have different features, and I use them for different things, but they sure help keep the heat out of the kitchen and help save on those energy bills. As long as you have sunshine, you can cook something in a solar oven - even in the winter.

Our town is in a contest with several other towns for reducing electric use, so I'll be wheeling the solar ovens out even more than normal.

This is timely.....just this morning I was thinking about buying a solar cooker kit (because I know me well enough to know that if I rely on making one from scratch it'll never get done). Thanks for sharing your info! Good luck to your town in winning the contest...that's a great idea
    Gratitude.

~I'd love to have one just so I didn't have to heat up the house in the summer. I get sick of grilling everything after a while.~

Thanks for the links. My mom, sister, and I have talking about going in on a solar oven.

No, but I've been wanting to make a basic solar cooker for a while now, and DD is old enough (7) that it would be a great homeschooling science project.

Let me make a minor correction; I actually want DH and DD to make the solar cooker, I am just not very good at following plans and diagrams, but I'm a great supervisor!

I have been thinking of buying one for a while now but still haven't taken the plunge.

We are debt free besides our house payment!!!
