Got outside for awhile , I got a 5 gallon bucket of weeds. The gardens are still mud bogs, and guess what, yep, more rain for fri, sat and sun.
My cucumbers are under lights on the front porch with little blooms on them! I think I'll transplant into a 5 gallon container w/ trellis, and let em grow....Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

Dh, the kids and I planted our garden Monday evening.
We planted corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, watermelon, pumpkin, cantaloupe, onions, and green peppers.
I hope at least half of it comes up. As we are pretty much first time gardeners. My dad has brought plants over and helped me dig my garden in years past. This year dh did most of the work.

I harvested yellow squash tonight
. We have planted pole beans, black-eyed peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, cantalope & watermelon. I had to re-plant a couple of rows of black-eyed peas.
Gardening has been a challenge this spring, so much wind and not much rain (until last weekend).

Checked on all the babies this morning, and they are all looking good after their transplant. I think I'm going to add one more sweet pepper to one of my beds, and that will pretty much be all it can hold.
Still need to plant corn, but I think I've got most of the other veggies covered. I'm still coveting fixer's asparagus, but I've got mine growing, so now it is just a matter of being patient for another year or so.
I have to figure out how to process horseradish. I have a horseradish plant in a pot that I've let grow for years now. The roots are starting to crack the pot, so I think it is time to harvest some of them!!DH aka Mad Hen

We did 3 rows of potatoes last night. Half red, and half white. All regular potatoes that we bought to eat that had lots of eyes on them. Not seed potatoes. We shall see how well they do.
Then I sarted some, roma tomato seeds in peat pots. A little late. not sure.
We have peas up doing great. A row of radishes coming along. And the onions are up a good couple of inches. Going to get some more of them this weekend.
We are double the size of last year's garden already. I canned and froze a lot last year. I bet I double my time in the kitchen later this summer too.Last edited by ladytoysdream; 04-30-2009 at 07:27 PM.

I have planted in the last week:
2 Big Boy tomatoes-plant
3 Romas (5 more to buy/plant)-plant
2 zucchinis-plant
9 "spots" of swiss chard (3 in each spot)-seed
two square feet of carrots four rows by three-hoping for about 30 carrots
8 heads of lettuce-plant
32 green beans-seed
1 artichoke
Still to plant
5 romas
2 cherry tomatoes
4 cucumber plants
3 Bell pepper
3 Anehiem
3 Crookneck squash-starts in house
pumpkins-starts in house
Broccoli-starts in house
watermelon-starts in house
I have always been told that if things are planted by Memorial Day then it is a good garden... I am experimenting this year with square foot gardening. These will all go in a bed 7'5" by 6'5" all except the pumpkins and watermelon, they will go in a six foot pool I always use. I also have a strawberry patch. Hopefully I will get around to getting blueberries raspberries maybe next year... I also want to do asparagus, and maybe corn next year.Bonnie mom to
