    Default Raccoon Problem!!!

A raccoon broke into the screened in porch last night and managed to kill our gosling while in it's cage! We have the worst luck with any kind of fowl, bobcats and eagles are a problem too. Anyway, our raccoon problem is huge right now, we live in a part of Florida that had the really bad fires last year. Many hundreds of acres near us burned. The critters can't go east - because the river is there - so they have headed west - straight to us! We haven't put in our garden yet because we were looking for a way to keep the deer our of it. We are going to use the hair clippings for them, but what to do with these raccoons??? We have 2 small animal traps and we are non stop trapping them and relocating them.

I don't know about FL raccoons, but up here they can be very destructive!! I have gotten myself two this year so far.... At first I thought about live traps, but my deepest fear was a scunk! So I did the only thing I could think of .....termination.

I made a nasty treat for them with dog food, bird seed and ?? Something to give them a belly ache. I don't feel bad about it either! They were breaking things and scaring away the birds. One came right up to the door while I was sitting there.

We have people around here who'll trap them (don't ask why but it involves potatoes) but its not easy to get them. Pray they don't find a way into your attic.Or if you have a dog be careful they can tear one up and then you have to worry about rabies. i don't think there cute despite disney films. They just destructive and germy. (almost as bad as possom).
Sorry you got to deal with them. Oh yeah,if you don't already know this, if you sprinkle flour around you can track comings and goings.
