Default If it doesn't stop raining..I will never get my garden out!

We have had rain/soggy days forever here in KY. I will never get out the tiller to be able to plant my plants...anyone else in the same boat?

Any suggestions for putting out a few plants? I am soooo wanting to grow something, this is driving me nuts!

I know how you feel. I live South East of Indianapolis and we have had alot of rain too. I was able to get out my potatoes, onions, some radishes and lettuce, but then it started raining. The farmers are behind on their planting here too. I don't have any solutions, just understanding!

Plant in pots. That way, you can take them in! Don't want to drown the plants in the rain storm.

Course, if you just put up a net, you can catch all our plants blowing by. It's been blowing like a hurricane or something here for a week or two! (They'll be glad for the moisture there, cause this wind is drying things out more than the normal dryness.)

I can relate to this problem since we live in the same area. My garden is tilled. If my pepper and tomato plants start looking like the need to go in the ground, I will plant them in the mud. It is far from ideal but I have done it in the past. For planting seeds, I will have to wait for the ground to dry. To have dry ground to plant asparagus last spring, I covered the plot with a blue tarp. It worked amazingly well.

We are still waiting for frost to come out of the ground and now they are calling for snow tomorrow! My tomato plants inside are getting really, really big so I hope the weather turns around quickly!

I'm in the same boat! It's been raining/cloudy all week and threatening to rain or just rain all day. We did scoop the Rona flyer for this week and they're having a sale on cedar planking, which is what we wanted to use for our flower box border. I figure that if the weather continues to be this way today, I'll wait until we go to Rona and build the box before I put bulbs in the ground.

They're also having a sale on a killer composter and we're eyeing a rain barrel out front.

I told DH I'm just going to put the bulbs in and then we can do the flower box border around it. I'm getting tired of this weather.

Same thing going on here, we got the tiller thru it again last night , to help dry it out,, its still so wet,, I have big hunks of mud everwhere.

I guess I'm going to plant in 5 gallon buckets this weekend if I can't get them out. My cucumbers are blooming, so I have to do something...

Sad part... news said more rain starting this afternoon...

I have my garden as "in" as it can be now. Now to sit back, cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I don't have any suggestions, other than to use this time to watch the water patterns. Watch where it pools, so you can raise these areas once the rain stops. Then when you've done that you probably won't have your garden flooded when you finally can get it established.

(Re: cedar planking at Rona) I saw that in the flyer as well. I'm going to try to build some raised beds as our soil is just solid clay, and we have terrible drainage. My yard looks like a swamp after it rains. I didn't know if those were sale prices or regular prices, but I ripped the page out so I can go up to Home Depot and compare (much closer) hopefully they have the same or better.

I have to build it tomorrow. I live in the same planting zone as Durgan, and his posts lead me to believe I should have had stuff in weeks ago.
