Yay!!! I have four laying hens now!!
My fourth, a young silkie hen is laying eggs. Her very first was today. I am so excited.
Hens start laying after about 20 weeks. Some sooner, it's all individual. However Muppet is 28 weeks old. She's just a little thing, a bantam variety. Her breed is called "Silkie" they lack the gene in their feathers to create what you may percieve as true feathers, she has a more down feather feel and look to her. She looks like a Jim Henson Muppet. Hense the name.

Fancy lady dressed in fluff. The topknot does indeed make her look like a muppet. Good name. Thanks for the photo!

That is one cute chicken...how big is her eggs ?
We have 12 meat chicks coming up fast...3 weeks old...probably will end up for sunday dinners. But I will have me some laying hens by fall....I be determined now
Son just hatched out 9 turkeys...his first try. 9 out of 9 ...so 100 % .
He tells me we can have his extras...he only wants 2 females, 1 male for himself.--------My signature--------

ROFL I wish I had paid closer attention to this thread!! I din't mean to ignore you!
Her eggs are half as big as my other hens eggs. about as big as an inch and a half long. Petite little eggs. It looks like her eggs are barely bigger than quail eggs. it'll take at least two to equal a small chicken egg. Hee hee, and she's some proud of them too... oh, I know! It's about the size of a small walnut, or a pecan (in shell). Bigger than an almond. not by much though. that's a fitting description of size. And they are a pale beige color.
I am having such fun with them. I don't know what I was thinking before. I shoulda had them much much sooner.~~ Missy ~~
